Patient Presentation and examination:
- Personal information and dental history: Young male patient, with a history of recently concluded fixed orthodontic treatment
- Intraoral examination: White discolorations observed in the cervical thirds of the labial surfaces of multiple maxillary anterior teeth, including 12, 11, 21, and 22 along the gingival margin. These were visible both when the teeth were wet and dry. (Figure 1)
Diagnosis:
- 12, 11, 21, 22: Initial carious lesions (ICDAS Score 2) on the labial surfaces
Treatment:
- The lesions were treated with one application of Curodont Repair in the same appointment.
- Curodont Protect was prescribed to be used twice a week at home at bedtime.
Follow-up: At the 3-month post-treatment follow-up, significant reduction in lesion sizes and appearance was observed, indicative of caries regression. (Figure 2)
Take-away: Fixed orthodontic treatment is often accompanied by development of initial caries around the bonded brackets.* These can be treated non-invasively with Curodont Repair in office, immediately after diagnosis, even around the bonded brackets.
