Patient Presentation and examination:
- Personal information: 54-year-old male
- Routine radiographic examination: Small radiolucencies were observed in the enamel of #29 (mesial). This was confirmed using an artificial intelligence software (Videa Health AI) (Figure 1)
Diagnosis:
#29 : Initial caries extending to the inner half of enamel (E2) on the mesial surface
Treatment:
- The initial caries lesion was treated with one application of Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus and followed up with an application of fluoride varnish (5% sodium fluoride).
- Oral hygiene instructions were reinforced.
Follow-up: At the 4-month follow-up post-treatment, the following observations were made and confirmed with the AI software as well: (Figure 2)
#29: Reduction in the size of the treated lesion to E0, indicative of complete remineralization.
Take-away: Initial caries lesions, largely asymptomatic, can be considered the sub-clinical stages of the caries disease. Treating these lesions in a timely manner with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus, along with improved oral hygiene and diet on the patient’s part, can help remineralize these lesions and help in preventing their progression into cavities.
