Patient Presentation and examination:
- Personal information: 32-year-old male
- Routine radiographic examination: Small radiolucencies in the enamel of #13 (distal) and #20 (distal) were observed. This was highlighted well by an AI software (Videa Health AI) (Figure 1)
Diagnosis:
#13: Initial caries extending to the outer half of enamel (E1) on the distal surface
#20: Initial caries extending to the outer half of the enamel (E1) on the distal surface.
Treatment:
- The lesions were treated with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus in the same appointment.
- Oral hygiene instructions were reinforced.
Follow-up: At the 7-month follow-up post-treatment, the following observations were made, confirmed also by the AI software: (Figure 2)
- Reduction in lesion sizes to E0, indicative of complete remineralization.
Take-away: The early stages of caries can be remineralized when diagnosed in time and treated with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus, along with improved oral hygiene. A majority of these are on the proximal tooth surfaces* and the use of AI can facilitate their detection on bite-wing x-rays.
