Mode of Action

The concentrated formula acts on enamel and dentin against demineralization, helping to prevent tooth decay and early caries lesions that appear as white spots, while protecting against painful sensitivity.

The proprietary formulation in Curodont Protect is designed to keep the active ingredient (Stabilized Stannous Fluoride) on the tooth surface to unleash its protective power against acids and to protect from dentinal sensitivity.

The Stabilized Stannous Fluoride acts on exposed dentin and on the tooth surface, building increasing protection on the sensitive areas of the teeth.

Its proprietary formulation leaves teeth feeling smooth and clean.

Support the uptake of calcium and phosphate from saliva on the tooth surface increasing their availability for remineralization
Release stabilized stannous fluoride to protect the sensitive areas of the tooth against cold, head, acids, sweets or contact

Indications

  • Cavity prevention, particularly for orthodontic patients and for those with a high risk of caries
  • After the treatment with CRFP in the dental office and at home

FAQ

Curodont Protect is a dental gel for in-office and home use that helps protect enamel from demineralization, helping to prevent cavities while also building increasing protection against sensitivity.

It is an easy-to-apply, transparent proprietary formula gel containing stabilized stannous fluoride. It also serves as an ideal complement to treatment of initial caries with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus.
Dentin, a living tissue within the tooth, is normally nestled under the outer layers of enamel and cementum. It is made up of microscopic tubules filled with fluid. The dentin may get exposed in various conditions, such as wear of teeth, gum inflammation and recession, etc. When the dentinal tubules are exposed to the oral environment, external stimuli, such as heat, cold, sweet/sour tastes, or touch, might disturb the dentinal fluid. This disturbance is manifested as a sharp pain in the tooth and is known as hypersensitivity.
Caries develop as a consequence of an imbalance in the natural equilibrium that exists in the oral cavity. Carbohydrates retained for a length of time on tooth surfaces are fermented by oral bacteria, creating acid as a by-product. This acid attacks enamel, leading to localized demineralization, known as caries.

Cavities are an advanced stage of caries where enough demineralization has happened to result in the loss of integrity of the tooth surface.
The protective effect of Curodont Protect is based on the clinically proven benefits of stabilized stannous fluoride as the active ingredient, delivered via the proprietary vVardis formula.

Stannous fluoride is well documented to protect enamel from demineralization,* promote its remineralization,* and provide protection against sensitivity.**

The proprietary formula in Curodont Protect is designed to stabilize the active ingredient on the tooth surface. It supports the uptake of calcium and phosphate ions from the saliva, increasing their availability for remineralization and building increasing protection from tooth sensitivity.

Curodont Protect also leaves teeth feeling smooth.

Curodont Protect is versatile, easy-to-use, and does not require any sophisticated armamentarium. It can be applied by both the dentist and by patients themselves. Some examples of how it can be used are:

  1. As a complement to treatment of initial caries with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus.
  2. As a caries prevention boost after dental procedures such as oral prophylaxis and at orthodontic follow-up appointments
  3. For protection from sensitivity in a variety of situations, such as periodontally compromised dentitions, tooth abrasions and erosion, bleaching, etc.
  4. For control of sensitivity pain before and after dental procedures, such as oral prophylaxis, bleaching, periodontal surgeries, etc.
  5. To support regular oral hygiene routine of patients, for added anti-cavity protection.
  6. In patients at a high risk of caries, such as those undergoing fixed orthodontic treatments.
Stannous fluoride is known to protect enamel against demineralization and promote its remineralization. It is also documented to protect enamel against erosion* due to dietary acids and to protect the tooth from hypersensitivity.**

While stannous fluoride may cause staining, staining has not been reported with the use of Curodont Protect or Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus.

Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus (CRFP) is an anti-cavity sodium fluoride dental rinse for addressing early caries through a non-invasive, painless, short in-office procedure. Its proprietary formula helps attract calcium and phosphate found in the saliva to help regenerate hydroxyapatite, an inorganic mineral that is naturally occurring in teeth and bones.

Curodont Protect is a stannous fluoride anti-cavity gel that complements Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus by protecting the tooth from further demineralization and promoting remineralization. Used once or twice a week after treatment with CRFP maximizes treatment success.
Curodont Protect was developed to provide teeth with effective protection against demineralization, protecting the tooth from the development of caries.

However, if an initial carious lesion has already formed, Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus (CRFP) should be used to prevent progression of the carious lesion. CRFP’s proprietary formula helps attract calcium and phosphate found in the saliva to remineralize early carious lesions. This has been shown in case studies to cause regression and arrest of early carious lesions.

Once the treatment with CRFP is done, Curodont Protect should be used once or twice a week until the tube is finished to support the remineralizing action of CRFP.
Curodont Protect can be applied by dental professionals in office or by the patients themselves at home. The dental professional may use a rubber polisher, interdental brush, or a micro-brush to spread the gel over the tooth surface/s.
When using at home, patients can spread the gel evenly over all tooth surfaces with a toothbrush, interdental brush, or a clean finger.

In-office use:
  1. After treatment with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus: 5 minutes after CRFP application, apply on the treated area and rest of the dentition. Continue to use at home.
  2. For sensitivity: Apply on sensitive teeth, 2 mins before and immediately after a dental procedure such as oral prophylaxis, to reduce sensitivity and discomfort during the visit. Continue to use at home as directed by the dentist.
  3. For cavity prevention: Apply on the entire dentition, after completion of a dental procedure. Continue to use at home as directed by the dentist.
At-home use:
  1. After treatment with Curodont Repair Fluoride Plus: 1-2x/week, on the treated area and rest of the dentition, after brushing at bedtime
  2. For sensitivity: On the sensitive tooth/teeth once or several times a day as needed, until the pain subsides.
  3. As an addition to oral hygiene routine: 1-2x/week, on the entire dentition, after brushing at bedtime.
The gel must be allowed to stay on the teeth undisturbed for 1-2 min before spitting out the residue, if any. The gel should not be swallowed. This should not be followed by rinsing, so as to maintain the contact of the gel with the teeth for as long as possible.
Yes. Curodont Protect contains stabilized stannous fluoride (1000 ppm F).
Fluorides have long been known to be beneficial for caries prevention. Curodont Protect contains stabilized stannous fluoride. Its proprietary vVARDIS formula provides a smooth finish to the teeth.

Fluoride varnishes are usually applied on the entire dentition by a dental professional 2-3 times a year. Curodont Protect can be used by these patients at home once or twice a week on the entire dentition for continuing protection from caries.
It is best to avoid eating, drinking, or rinsing immediately after the application of Curodont Protect at a dentist/hygienist office or at home so as to maintain its undisturbed contact with the tooth surface for an extended time. At a minimum, patients should avoid eating, drinking or rinsing for 30 minutes after application.
Curodont Protect works to reduce hypersensitivity pains. It can be used once or several times a day, as required by the patient, for a few days until the desired comfort is achieved. When applied to sensitive areas in advance, it can also prevent hypersensitivity during dental hygiene treatments.
