This case is a part of a randomized controlled quadruple blinded clinical trial to evaluate the remineralization potential of Curodont Repair on initial carious lesions on buccal surfaces. (Sedlakova Kondelova P et al. Sci Rep 2020;10:20211)
Patient Presentation and examination:
- Intraoral examination: A chalky white discoloration was observed along the gingival margin on 13, both when the tooth was wet and dry. (Day 0)
Diagnosis:
- 13: Initial carious lesion (ICDAS Score 2), seen as a white spot lesion
Treatment:
- The lesion was treated with one application of Curodont Repair.
- At the 3-month-follow up, fluoride varnish was applied on the lesion surface.
Follow-up:
- The lesion showed gradual reduction in size and appearance on the follow up appointments on Day 90, 180, and 270 after treatment.
Take-away: Initial caries on facial surfaces of anterior teeth present an additional challenge of being an aesthetic challenge. Treatment of these white spot lesions non-invasively with Curodont Repair can help reduce the size of these lesions and improve appearance.
